Kara Gnodde – author website

Project Type:
Digital

Client:
Kara Gnodde

Author Kara Gnodde needed a website to coincide with the launch of her debut novel, The Theory of (Not Quite) Everything. Kara wanted a website that promoted her book, explained a bit about her, allowed her to post updates about the book and herself, and to provide contact details of her agents and publishers.

Her fantastic book, published in the UK by Pan Macmillan, and in the USA and Canada by HarperCollins, has different cover designs for each territory, and the website needed to reflect each of those.

I designed a Squarespace site for her, which felt like the right platform from the point of view of cost and usability. I used the Mostra Nuova font from the US cover (designed by Joanne O’Neill, illustrated by Sandra Chiu) for the bulk of the site, complemented by an elegant sans serif, with the colour palette for the site taken from the US cover too.

I used a couple of Sandra Chiu’s illustrations on the site, sitting alongside the book’s glowing reviews. I also created various image assets, for use both on the site and Kara’s Instagram page.

Using Squarespace means that the site works just as well on mobile as it does on desktop.

‘The studio name ‘We Made This’ reflects the fun and easy collaboration of working with Alistair – but the classy, bang-on and thoughtful design is all him. He made the whole process a pleasure.’
